Rooted in the meaning of our name – K’aayil”, which means song in Mayan – we believe every young person deserves the chance to write their own future.
We are committed to empowering low-income students in Yucatán, Mexico by providing scholarships, mentorship, and opportunities that ensure access to quality education. We believe education is the key to breaking cycles of poverty and creating lasting change. Founder
Carlos is responsible for overseeing compliance, governance and setting the strategic direction for K’aayil. With experience in business and specifically financial markets, Carlos brings a private-enterprise lens to the world of nonprofits. By redefining how we plan, execute and measure results in the charity space, he’s hoping to maximize the impact of K’aayil for the benefit of marginalized communities in Mexico.
Creative & Events Director
Madeline blends a background in operations for early-stage startups with a passion for creative design. As co-founder of Rinse & Repeat, an underground DJ event series in Vancouver, she was instrumental in building the brand from scratch and executing innovative events. With a hands-on approach, she brings a unique combination of operational expertise and creative vision to every project, helping turn bold ideas into memorable experiences.
Social Media & Marketing Coordinator
Maiya brings energy and creativity to our marketing, branding, and partnerships by amplifying our mission and growing our presence in both Vancouver and Mexico. As a business student at UBC’s Sauder School of Business with a passion for marketing, she crafts a brand that speaks to the heart of the community. By collaborating with local artists and local vendors, Maiya ensures that every step we take aligns with our mission to empower students in Mexico.
Operations & Event Coordinator
Will keeps everything running like a well-oiled machine, supporting both big-picture operations and the details that make events and business initiatives shine. With a background in bartending and a lifelong passion for sports, he brings a team-first mindset and thrives in fast-paced environments. Now studying business at BCIT, Will blends hands-on experience with strategic thinking to ensure things not only get done—but get done right.
